Week 5-Paper & Card Models
Week 5-Paper & Card Models
HEY GUYS WHATS GOING ON, ITS YA BOI SIMON, BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH ANOTHER WEEKLY UPDATE ON WHAT ITS LIKE STUDYING A GLORIFIED ARTS DEGREE. This week I'v been making some 1:25 scaled paper and card models inspired by my bedroom.
Paper Model
Below is my first prototype iteration of the model made of printing paper. It was constructed by cutting out a net template on A3 paper leaving tabs at key locations as to allow for easy gluing.
Printing paper is very flimsy and prone to shrinking and warping when glue was applied, thus you can see that the walls aren't straight and the base is slightly wrinkled.
Card Model
Building upon what was established in the prototype, a more fleshed out model was constructed using 300gsm A3 paper. The method of construction followed the same principle as the prototype, drawing and cutting a net template on the A3 paper leaving tabs at key locations, before gluing everything together.
To spice things up, I decided to layer the base with strips of paper to imitate a wooden flooring, and build a bed, closet and a table, all of which were constructed from a net and folded/glued together.
300gms paper was much easier to work with due to its stiffness, and none of the problems encountered in the prototype was an issue this time around.
